Wolf Components director completes London Marathon

George Joyce, sales director at South Yorkshire-based Wolf Components, has successfully completed the 2025 TCS London Marathon, raising almost £5,000 for The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry.

Taking on his first-ever marathon, George joined more than 50,000 runners on the streets of the capital on Sunday 27 April, completing the iconic 26.2-mile course in four hours and 21 minutes and raising awareness for a cause close to his heart.

The event took place on an unseasonably warm day, with temperatures reaching 22°C – conditions that added an extra layer of challenge for runners.

“The first 20km was incredibly enjoyable – I loved the crowds and the support, and I felt fully in control of both my pace and the race,” George said. “The next 10km required more focus, as the heat and fatigue crept in. I remember passing runners on Tower Bridge and thinking how amazing it would feel to be on that side of the road soon. I was mistaken!”

As the race wore on, the challenge intensified. “In the final 12km, the pain really kicked in. It’s incredible how strong your mind can be when every step hurts and you’re pushing through the wall,” he added. “Crossing the finish line was a relief and the whole experience was truly enjoyable. The atmosphere and support were astounding.”

George ran in support of The Furniture Makers’ Company, which provides financial assistance to people in the UK furniture and furnishing industry who have fallen on hard times and organises initiatives encouraging young people to pursue careers in the sector.

George added: “I’m proud to have completed it – and even prouder to have done it for a worthwhile cause. Thank you to everyone who donated and supported me. I’d recommend anyone wanting a challenge to give it a go – I never thought I’d be able to run a marathon, but you don’t know until you try.”

Brian Ahern, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, who cheered George on from the sidelines, said: “George’s determination and resilience are truly inspiring. His effort not only showcases personal perseverance but also highlights the power of community support for our industry. We’re incredibly grateful for his fundraising and encourage everyone to continue supporting his campaign.”
