Wren sales decline but remain over £900m

Kitchen and bedroom furniture manufacturer and retailer, Wren, has reported a decline in sales and profit.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024, total sales fell 5.1% to £917.7m from £967.3m in 2023.

EBITDA stood at £111m, down from £116.9m, while pre-tax profit resulted at £69.4m, down from £74.8m recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, Wren said: “The kitchen market remained somewhat challenging in 2024 with an uncertain macroeconomic environment and a continued slowdown in the housing market resulting in some consumers choosing to defer their kitchen renovation project.

“Expansion of the company’s retail showroom network began again in 2024. New store openings had largely been put on hold over the previous two years whilst the group was focussed on rolling out its bedroom range in the UK and on building its showroom network in the USA. By the second half of the year the directors felt comfortable recommencing the programme in the UK alongside the openings in the USA.

“The company opened four new showrooms during the year, albeit that three of those showrooms did not open until very close to the end of the year and as such none of the revenue generated by these stores can be recognised in this year’s figures as the kitchens they have sold have yet to be delivered.

“At the year end the company had 115 showrooms open, this is less than half of the number of showrooms of some of our competitors and there remains significant areas in the UK where the company has no presence.

“Additional locations have already been identified, and the company is confident that the pace of showroom openings will accelerate during 2025 and beyond. Whilst the company is keen to find locations in the towns it is not currently in, as has always been the case, new properties will only be taken on if the commercial terms are sensible and appropriate.”
