Fit-out furniture specialist delivers strong profit growth

Fit-out contractor Thomas Johnstone, which also specialises in the manufacture of bespoke furniture, has reported a growth in sales.

According to its latest filed accounts for the year ended 31 December 2023, total sales rose 46% to £86.4m from £59.4m in 2022.

Pre-tax profit resulted at £3.9m, up from £768,000 recorded the previous year.

Stated within its report, the company said: “As a result of strong sales, we were able to generate a gross margin percentage return which allowed the business to deliver an operating profit in line with budget expectations.

“This was achieved against a backdrop of high inflation throughout the construction sector, affecting Subcontractor, Labour, Plant and Material costs. By careful negotiations and risk management we managed to secure projects with favourable terms regarding cost increases. We anticipate a strong first quarter in 2024 which we will build upon.”
